Excellence in Education Rooted in Yoga and Ayurveda

University of Patanjali (UOP), located near the serene Himalayan foothills in the city of Haridwar, Uttarakhand is named after the great Indian sage Maharshi Patanjali (c. 900 BC), who first compiled numerous writings on Yoga in the form of aphorisms. The University was established through Act No. 4/2006 of Uttarakhand State Legislature published in the State Gazette on 05.04.2006 and is sponsored by Patanjali Yogpeeth Trust (PYP). The University is approved under Section 2F of the UGC Act, 1956. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities.

The University is fully residential. Each day here commences with the resonant chant of the cosmic sound "Aum". The campus comes alive with the practice of Yoga, ensuring the holistic i.e. physical, mental and spiritual well-being of all. Morning and evening sacred Yajnas are performed. Blessed by the presence of Yoga Rishi Swami Ramdev ji, the President of the University, and Ayurved Shiromani Acharya Balkrishna ji, Vice Chancellor, the University has expanded its academic horizons into diverse disciplines including Yoga Science, Naturopathy, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Psychology, History, Travel & Tourism Management, Physical Education & Sports, Music, and Allied & Applied Science.

The uniqueness of the University is reflected in its teaching methodologies which integrate the contemporary educational paradigms with the ancient Guru-Shishya Parampara, fostering an environment where each student receives personalized guidance with emphasis on holistic development. The university places a profound focus on nurturing students not only academically but also physically and spiritually, with a commitment to the practical application of disciplines such as Yoga and naturopathy.

University's commitment to excellence extends to its research arm, the Patanjali Research Foundation, renowned for its pioneering research in Ayurveda and Yoga. The University is equipped with modern amenities. There are two theaters, one with 2200, and the other with 600 seating capacity in addition to a multi-purpose amphitheater. The University has an NCC program, 31st UK Battalion with approximately 80 male and female students who perform at various on- and off- campus events, and NSS program with the motto, “Not me, but you” helps develop students’ personality through various community service projects.

The University has modern sports facilities such as multipurpose indoor sports hall, and outdoor football, cricket, hockey, volleyball, handball, basketball fields. The students play traditional Indian games such as Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, and wrestling in various sports competitions. The University students have won several gold, silver, and bronze medals at the National and State levels events such as Yogasana, Mini Golf, and Wood Ball. The students have won gold medals for four years in a row, from 2017- 2023, in woodball at All-India Inter-University level.
